NEED HELP?

If you are a bona fide photo researcher and are having any difficulty whatsoever, please contact us and we will prepare a light table of images to meet your needs as soon as possible.

KEYWORDS

All images in our database have keywords (e.g., cetacean, dolphin, spotted) as well as scientific names (e.g., Baleanoptera musculus) and common names (blue whale). Enter one or more keywords and/or part or all of the scientific name. Do not try to enter a full sentence or question (e.g., "where do dolphins live") as the search engine will try to match each word against those in the database and probably won't find an image that matches all of them. Here are some common search queries to give you some ideas:

     blue whale
     humpback bubble
     kelp NOT shark NOT ray
yosemite NOT sequoia     (all yosemite photos except those of sequoia trees)
     kelp sunfish
     tuna crab
     fur seal galapagos
"whale shark"     (requires an exact match so that whales are not included)
cetacean NOT balaen NOT gray     (all cetaceans except gray and blue whales)
fish school NOT mola     (all schooling fish except for molas)
humpback NOT fluke NOT "head lunge"     (omits two popular types of humpback photos)
     open ocean
0140,2304,0167,1001-1004     (a selected set of images by ID number)

Note that search criteria are case insensitive -- don't worry about capitalization.

STOCK LIST :: Categories, Species, Locations

We have a comprehensive stock list. To save yourself the trouble of composing a search query you can instead select from the complete list or see only species, locations or intuitive subject categories

VIEWING IMAGES

Images returned by your search can be viewed in 100-pixel or 244-pixel sizes, and you can control the number of rows and columns in the grid of images. A larger version of each image is available by clicking on the thumbnail image itself or clicking on the "See large version" link. When your query returns more than one image, the images can be viewed in automatic succession by clicking on the "Slide Show" link at the top of the page.
