DJI Mavic 2 Pro Sample Photos

I often travel to dive in interesting places, and for the last couple years I have taken a drone (Phantom 4 Pro) on my dive trips to make aerial panoramas of spectacular coral reefs, like this aerial photo of Clipperton Island. I have a trip to the South Pacific coming up and have not been relishing the thought of dragging the bulky Phantom with me, so I bought a DJI Mavic 2 Pro recently since it looks much easier to travel with and should produce at least similar quality stills (if not better) to the Phantom 4 Pro. (I don’t shoot video so I don’t even look at the specs for that but I assume the video specs would be better than the Phantom 4 Pro as well.) I’m sharing a few test shots in the San Diego area in the last few days so you can download them and get a sense of the detail the camera produces. I was curious about the detail the little Mavic could produce with its itsy-bitsy Hasselblad camera but couldn’t find any full res images along the lines of what I shoot. Originally thinking I would shoot the P4P and M2P side by side and do a comparison of the raw files, it soon became clear that would be a waste of my time — they compare fine. I’m sure drone bloggers with time to burn will do that anyway. The Mavic 2 Pro stills are very nice and will suit my purposes for dive travel aerial photos. That may sound cavalier but I have been shooting photos for 30 years so I know when an image is sharp and when the color fidelity is there. From what I see with th new Mavic 2 Pro, “it’s there”. The resolving power (detail) looks very good, and the color and dynamic range in the raw files hold up well in the type of editing I do in Lightroom. Below each of the low res images is a link to the full resolution JPG. Note that my web scripting runs all JPGs through a Exiftool script that removes most EXIF information, so if you are a pixel peeper and are looking for the DJI EXIF data in these files you may not find it. Bottom line: these were all taken with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro, ISO 200, f/5.6, aperture priority, no filters. Edited from DNG raw files in Lightroom, and saved as 100% jpgs. If you are considering a Mavic 2 Pro I hope these are helpful to you. Cheers, and thanks for looking!
