My daughter and I hiked to this place at sunset, in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/valley_of_fire_state_park_photo.html\">Valley of Fire State Park<\/a> in Nevada, an hour east of Las Vegas. This was a beautiful spot, not only for this special striated sandstone formation but for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/spotlight.php?img=26484\">white domes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/spotlight.php?img=26476\">colorful eroded washes<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/spotlight.php?img=26477\">brilliant red mesas<\/a> that surrounded us as we enjoyed the fading light and still, warm air.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The Fire Wave, a beautiful sandstone formation exhibiting dr...\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/spotlight.php?img=26473\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"The Fire Wave, a beautiful sandstone formation exhibiting dramatic striations, striped layers in the geologic historical record, Valley of Fire State Park\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/stock-photo\/fire-wave-valley-fire-nevada-picture-26473-320154.jpg\" alt=\"The Fire Wave, a beautiful sandstone formation exhibiting dramatic striations, striped layers in the geologic historical record, Valley of Fire State Park\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Fire Wave, a beautiful sandstone formation exhibiting dramatic striations, striped layers in the geologic historical record.<br \/>\nImage ID: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/spotlight.php?img=26473\">26473<\/a><br \/>\nLocation: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/lightbox.php?location=valley_of_fire_state_park&amp;state=nevada&amp;country=usa\">Valley of Fire State Park<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/lightbox.php?state=nevada&amp;country=usa\">Nevada<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/lightbox.php?country=usa\">USA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>My guess is that the name &#8220;Fire Wave&#8221; was bestowed upon this relatively small formation due to its similarity to the more famous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/spotlight.php?img=20605\">&#8220;Wave&#8221; in North Coyote Buttes Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness<\/a> a few hours away in Arizona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo of the Fire Wave in Valley of Fire State Park I recently had a chance to see a sandstone formation often called &#8220;The Fire Wave&#8220;.
