{"id":596,"date":"2008-12-20T09:54:05","date_gmt":"2008-12-20T17:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/portfolio\/la-jolla-pelicans\/"},"modified":"2022-12-31T03:26:29","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T19:26:29","slug":"la-jolla-pelicans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/log\/la-jolla-pelicans.html","title":{"rendered":"La Jolla Pelicans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went down to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/lightbox.php?city=la_jolla&amp;state=california&amp;country=usa\">La Jolla<\/a> last week to check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/brown_pelican_photos.html\">brown pelicans<\/a> (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/lightbox.php?sp=Pelecanus_occidentalis_californicus\">Pelecanus occidentalis californicus<\/a><\/em>). There is a fence blocking access to the cliffs now, which is unfortunate and a real shame. When I was going to UCSD (many years ago) we would leap into the ocean from these same cliffs. Alas, no longer, thanks to politicians and\/or lawyers who have decided they know what is best for us and the birds. Anyway, the pelicans are starting to change into their winter breeding colors. I saw quite a few sporting a red gular throat pouch, a good sign, but I did not see many with well-developed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanlight.com\/spotlight.php?img=15128\">chestnut neck color<\/a> yet.
