Sawmill Geyser, located in the Upper Geyser Basin near the Castle Group, is the largest geyser in the Sawmill Group. Sawmill is a fountain-type geyser, with water erupting through a pool at the geyser's vent. Its behavior is highly variable, with intervals from one to three hours and durations from as little as nine minutes to over four hours. Heights can exceed 30 feet (10m). Eruptions are typically preceded by overflow, or near overflow, of the pool along with bubbling in the pool. At the end of Sawmill Geyser's eruption, many of the geysers in the Sawmill Group will drain, at least a few inches and often much deeper, depending on the duration of the eruption.
