Lunar 22-Degree Halo, Joshua Tree National Park Photo

Full moon with 22-degree lunar halo, Joshua Tree National Park. The lunar halo (not to be cofused with lunar corona) forms when moonlight refracts through high altitude ice crystals. As no light is refracted at angles smaller than 22-degrees the sky is darker inside the halo. Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA, natural history stock photograph, photo id 30711
