The Winter of 2025/2026 brought a little surprise – a very nice wildflower bloom in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. When they occur – which is not every year — wildflower blooms in Anza Borrego typically peak in March. However, this year we had thick wildflowers blooming in mid-December and healthy plants still going strong at the end of January. I attribute this to a series of warm spells interspersed with a good amount of rain at just the right intervals. When sunlight and rains line up, the seeds say “Go!” and the bloom starts even if it is not the “normal” time. I found that the only really photographic swaths of flowers were found in the usual place (Coyote Canyon). These images were taken in December 2025 and again in February 2026. In case you are wondering, this is not a superbloom, just a bloom. Cheers and thanks for looking!
