Torrey Pines State Reserve and Broken Hill Sunrise

This is a great time of year to get out along the coast of San Diego: dry clear mornings, tourists are mostly gone and the sun is far enough south that we have nice long shadows well after sunrise.  For 35 years I have been running, hiking and photographing Torrey Pines State Reserve.  It’s one of the jewels of San Diego.  Below are two  images I made there within a few minutes of each other recently: “Broken Hill at Sunrise”.   I recently got an iPhone 11 Pro and have been using its ultra wide lens a lot and am impressed with how well it compares with a “real camera”.  Can you guess which of these images was made with the iPhone and which with a professional dSLR?  I hate to say it but at low res on a computer screen or phone, the iPhone image looks pretty good.  Yeah, it will break down and can’t be printed 4′ by 6′ like the “pro version” but for most people the iPhone camera is good enough.  Love this image?  Get in touch and I can ship you a beautiful print of Broken Hill at Sunrise to hang in your home.  Cheers and thanks for looking!
